Cheapest Catcher's Mitts
Not all catcher's mitts are expensive.
Some happen to be really low cost, believe it or not.
The purpose of this article is to put a spotlight on those types of mitts.
Specifically, we detail the cheapest catcher's mitts available today based on a few different categories.
If you are in the market for a low cost catcher's mid option, then keep reading.
Cheapest Youth Catcher's Mitts for Baseball
The absolute cheapest catcher's mitts you can find at stores or online are those made for youth catchers.
It's because these types of mitts are smaller and use less materials, making it less expensive for the manufacturer to build. If you're not sure what exactly constitutes a youth mitt, we'd encourage you to check out our article on sizing for catcher's mitts.
In this section, we found the three cheapest catcher's mitts available today made for youth baseball catchers. At the time of publication, each mitt is selling for around $70 - $80 each.
If that's what you're looking for, then keep reading.
Rawlings Renegade
One of the cheapest catchers gloves out there for youth ballplayers is the Rawlings Renegade.
It measures 31.5" - a standard size for young catchers - and it's made of real leather in a solid black color.
The Renegade is almost totally broken in out of the box, so a few minutes of catch should get it pretty much fully broken in.
While the palm padding is just adequate, all in all it's a good catcher's mitt for the money.
Mizuno Samurai
Another budget option for youth catchers is the Mizuno Samurai. Although it's larger at 33" (not 31.5", like many others), this mitt is designed for younger catchers as it has a smaller hand stall.
It has a real leather shell and it looks nice with its black and tan color combo.
Like the Renegade, the Samurai catcher’s mitt is mostly broken in at the factory, minimizing what you need to do once you buy it.
Mizuno Prospect
Mizuno also makes another cheap youth catcher's mitt known as the Prospect. It's 31.5" and made out of real leather in solid black.
This glove has an added palm liner and a design that makes it very easy to close - more than normal mitts. Little break-in is required, like the others.
Our Top Pick in this Group?
If we had to choose just one catcher’s mitt in this group, we’d have to go with the Mizuno Prospect.
The extra padding and ease of closing the mitt makes it stand a little taller than the others, in our opinion.
Cheapest Youth Catcher's Mitts for Fastpitch Softball
In this section, we highlight the top three cheapest youth softball catcher's mitts.
Marucci Caddo Fastpitch
The Caddo catcher's mitt by Marucci is another budget option.
It's 32" and was engineered to require very little break in. It has steerhide leather and an inner palm liner.
Like adult fastpitch mitts, the Caddo has an H web which helps with visibility when receiving pitches.
All in all, it's a solid choice for younger softball catchers.
All Star Pro Fastpitch
The All Star Pro 31.5" catcher's mitt is about as good as they come if you're looking for a cheap glove for 10U.
All Star is a solid brand that makes products exclusively for catchers, so they know what they're doing with catcher's mitts.
It comes with a good quality leather shell and a velcro strap for adjusting tightness around the wrist.
The All Star Pro will require a little break in to get it usable, so be prepared be getting some glove oil.
Mizuno Prospect Select Fastpitch
A solid budget catcher's mitt option for youth softball is the Mizuno Prospect.
At 32.5", it's great for beginner catchers because it's designed to fit a smaller female hand and because it's easy to close.
The Prospect also has an added palm liner and it's made with real leather.
Our Top Pick in this Group?
If we had to pick one, we’d go with the Marucci Caddo as our top cheap catcher’s glove option for young softball players.
It has real cow leather and it’s an H web, which puts it across the top for us.
Cheapest Catcher's Mitts for Baseball
Now, onto the three lowest cost options for high school to adult-sized baseball catcher’s mitts.
Each of the following mitts currently retail for around $100 - $130.
All Star Comp Series
The All Star Comp Series is cheap, but it's designed specifically for beginner or recreational catchers who are teens or older.
So if you're catching 90+ mph, you may want to find another mitt.
Still, it has a lot of good features for the price.
It's 33.5", it has real leather and a velcro wrist strap to adjust tightness.
Keep in mind that it will need a decent amount of breaking in.
All Star Pro
A slightly higher priced option from All Star (though it’s still super cheap) is the All Star Pro.
It's a durable 33.5" catcher's mitt with real steerhide leather, rawhide laces and an adjustable velcro-based wrist strap.
There's an index finger pad on the back to help with comfort. It's also pretty lightweight.
The All Star Pro does require some break in but with this one it should be a relatively quick process.
Mizuno MVP Prime
The Mizuno MVP Prime is a cheap adult catcher's mitt that measures 34".
It has solid black leather with gold lacing, and the Mizuno logo features prominently at the top over the wrist in gold.
Like the All Star Pro, it has an external index finger pad.
This one will be pretty stiff right out the box, so if you get it be ready to break it in.
Our Top Pick in this Group?
Among these three, we’ve got to go with the All Star Pro.
As we’ve mentioned, All Star is a phenomenal brand that’s dedicated to catchers, and this catcher’s mitt is the best quality you can get for a price so low.
Cheapest Catcher's Mitts for Fastpitch Softball
The three cheapest adult-sized catcher's mitts for fastpitch softball are below. Current prices for these range from as low as $90 to as much as $120.
Marucci Acadia
The Marucci Acadia is a super affordable 33" fastpitch mitt. It's built to require little break in, which is great.
The shell is made of full grain steerhide leather, and it looks great with a tan/brown leather color combo.
Two other nice features in the Acadia include an added palm liner (to help with sting) and a comfortable microfiber-based wrist liner.
Akadema Torino
The Torino by Akadema is a budget catcher's mitt for teen and adult fastpitch catchers.
Although it's low cost, it's made of real steerhide leather in the palm and web sections.
This 34" mitt comes with an adjustable wrist strap - like the others in this category - and it's noticeably lightweight. The hand and finger stalls are pretty narrow, so it fits snug on the hand.
It is stiff out of the box, but doesn't take too much work to get it broken in.
Mizuno Franchise
The Mizuno Franchise is a cool looking black and white fastpitch softball catcher's mitt that measures 34".
Like others in this category, it has a leather shell with an added palm pad, an adjustable wrist strap and an H web.
The inside hand stall of the Franchise is made of moisture wicking fabric, and it comes mostly broken in.
Our Top Pick in this Group?
The Acadia is our top pick among the three.
It looks great, has good leather and comfortable features for catchers that’ll be using it repeatedly. If you’re looking for a super cheap softball option, it’s hard to go wrong here.
